Fred "Flury" Van de Kamp 1917 - 1982

Inducted 2000 Hockey, Coach, Horses

Fred played hockey throughout his life: as a young man, for Gray and Riceton teams and for a regional hockey team in Regina; with the army team when he was in training in Ontario; and later in life with Kronau and Lajord in an Old-timers Hockey League. Fred enjoyed the fun and excitement of playing the game and also appreciated coaching young players in the community.

Fred was known for his ice-skating abilities and became a respected hockey coach in the community.

Fred also trained and showed draft horses, trotters and hackney ponies winning many trophies and ribbons throughout his lifetime.  Even in retirement in Calgary Fred was the volunteer livery stable operator at Heritage Park maintaining and showing their collection of carriages and carts.
Hamlet of Gray has present day info.
