Curling and BonspielsIn the 'old' rink during bonspiels there were three sheets of curling ice added onto the skating surface so there was a total of five sheets in operation. That set-up could handle a lot of curlers. Kids got to play with frozen jam cans on the area that remained. Curlers used to carry their own rocks to competitions. Needless to say, each stone reacted differently to ice conditions. Winter weather often wreaked havoc on events. Whether for the participants traveling in or conditions that natural ice couldn't manage. |
